Interview w/ DJ Suave Javi

Where are you from?
I am originally from Bakersfield California but have been living on the Central Coast for about 8 years now.

What inspired you to become a Dj or how did you become a DJ?
Alot of things inspired me.....First I would say my older brother. He used to bring CDs from his work and I would listen to them all day and record them for my friends. I guess this was my early stages of making mixtapes. I remember one of my first parties I Djed and was shocked that if I play a certain song people go nutz! Yeah that's when I knew this is for me!

What are some of your musical inspirations/heroes?
Too many to count! I would say Prince, Santana, Sade, GangStarr, Mana, Juanes, Ramon Ayala, Vicente Fernandez, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Dr. Dre, Talib Kweli...this list could go on forever. The main thing I look for is individuality and creativeness.

What is your favorite album?
Again too many! I think I would say my favorite are the ones that I listen to during that particular time in my life. How it reflects alot on what I am going through and how I could relate to it.

Song?
Sorry can't pick one....every song is a poem written by that particular poet. I guess my favorite would depend on my emotion of what I would like to feel.

What do you want us to promote for you in the article?
I would like for people to understand that Djing for me is a full time job. It's a job which I don't clock in or clock out. We listen to music on a daily basis and always looking for creative ideas on remixing and bringing something new. I am hoping people can respect what we do and to respect our trade. It's not easy entertaining hundreds of people on a weekly basis.

Craziest experience DJing?
I've got stories to tell.....I remember one time some guy got really drunk and knocked my turntables to the floor. BAM...CRASH! That's all you heard....30 minutes later....we were back on track! Hey the show must go on!

Anything else that would read well, funny story or cool thing that happened to you?
Hey if you really want to get your song played don't come empty handed....give us a drink, tip or phone number and we'll be sure to get your song on quickly!

What is your favorite drink?
Bacardi and Coke please!
What is your favorite bar/club?
I don't have a favorite because I think each one is different on it's own way. But I would say The Graduate because it's my home.

Who's your favorite nightclub website?
I don't have one.

Is there an mp3 of one of your songs we can play on the site for promotional purposes near your article?
(that may take time) Yeah sure just go to myspace.com/djsuavejavi and you'll find some there.

What local DJ do you want to read an article about and why?
I would say all the local Djs in the area. I would like to get toknow each and every one of them. From their different styles and personalities. I actually want to begin a chapter of Djs in the Central Coast. If anyone is interested let me know.
